Among the Daitya demons, I am the devoted Prahlada; among subduers I am time; among the beasts, I am the lion, and among birds, I am Garuda, the feathered carrier of Visnu.
Please, somebody, clarify this to me :
There’s a harsh reality in the lion world: not all lion cubs can make it to adulthood, for only about 1 in 8 cubs usually survive. Indeed, a lot of them face mortality before reaching their first birthday, mostly because of attacks from other lions.
Despite the fact we look upon them as the symbols of chivalry and nobility, lions are actually vicious, merciless creatures. They have this grisly method of killing all cubs that are not of their own, all in order to ensure the survival of their own bloodline, not that of another lion.
Adult males will move into new territory and challenge the males in an existing pride. If they manage to defeat the male they will kill all the cubs in that pride in order to bring the females back into heat to father their own offspring. Transient lions will also kill unattended cubs if they find them. But lions are the only cat other than domestic cats that will share nursing duties with other females, so orphaned cubs can join others in nursing and protection by the females in the pride. They may not enjoy the status or rank they had when their mother was alive, but they often survive.
