Schism v/s skew

 Marital skew

 when one spouse denies any negative behaviors or qualities of their other partner. This is observed in domestic abuse cases, where the abused partner cannot see the failures, limits & boundary crossing of the abuser and simply cannot accept that the abuser is doing wrong. . Usually, it is like one spouse taking a submissive role in the relationship and overlooking the faults of the other spouse. 

While marriage requires many compromises, marital skew goes a little further, creating a situation where children and all other people can recognise the problem with one parent. However, the other parent is entirely unmindful/ignorant and in denial of accepting the truth.

Marital Schism

 it is when both the wife & husband know that their marriage relationship is dying. They know they are unhappy with each other, yet they stay married for the benefit of their children. Here One parent can undermine the worth of another by competing for sympathy or support from the children or /and other people 

" Intimacy requires courage because the risk is inescapable. We cannot know at the outset how the relationship will affect us. Like a chemical mixture, if one of us is changed, both of us will be. Will we grow in self-actualization, or will it destroy us? The one thing we can be certain of is that if we let ourselves fully into the relationship for good or evil, we will not come out unaffected "
