Happiness is about giving the self what it wants, while meaning is all about self-transcendence

Happiness is about giving the self what it wants, but wants are never-ending. Each desire met is quickly followed by another desire unmet...this wanting continues...as wanting is a moving target. Desires tend to change, whether or not they’re gratified. Wants are inexhaustible

Example: Destination addiction - the condition where you wait to reach some point in life to experience happiness. Next job, promotion, or a new relationship. It's never in the present. Always waiting for that future. It doesn't work. Find your happiness in your Present

Meaning is all about Transcending the self. Happiness may or may not give meaning but Finding our unique meaning in life with our creativity or any work will surely give happiness.

" Self-transcendence: it is the ability to look away from the self,

from one’s own pain, one’s own circumstancessuffering, or grief.

 It is the ability

 1. To reach out to some other person or pursuing something greater that is worth dying for

2. To realize an ideal, or fulfill a task, and

3. To reach out to a Higher Being, to God, and in this process, one forgets about oneself.

The basic tenets of Existential Positive Psychology (PP2.0)

(1) Embracing the dark side of life as the other half of complete wellbeing and living fully.

(2) Practicing the Yin-Yang dialectic as the way to achieve optimal balance & harmony in life.

(3) Facing life with a resilient mindset as a precondition for flourishing & character building.

(4) Pursuing meaning (self-transcendence) as the best way to self-actualization and fulfillment.
